Read about the top 3 projects during 2016-2017.
First Place: University of North Georgia
The Enactus team at the University of North Georgia saw food insecurity in their community and created a project to establish sustainable access to food and education to Title I schools and 12-step rehabilitation clients. The project directly impacted 680 people through 1,500+ hours of outreach and indirectly impacted over 2,000 people to create a brighter future.
Second Place: Blue Ridge Community College-VA
Blue Ridge Community College-VA Enactus saw the need to educate young, intellectually-challenged adults to increase their knowledge of health, nutrition and cooking skills. The team created workshops with hands-on activities to empower five intellectually-challenged adults for over 400 hours. Results proved that the adults learned how to read and follow recipes, mastered cooking on grills and crockpots and retained information on how to read food labels.
Third Place: La Sierra University
La Sierra University Enactus continued their project to empower their community’s access to fresh produce and household essentials. In 2015 in partnership with public service organizations, the team remodeled a city bus into a mobile grocery store. The bus visited community-wide “Fresh Stops” located in food deserts to bring service to low-income families and senior citizens. This year, the team’s sustainable social enterprise impacted 3,500+ individuals.
